Why didn't I watch the President's speech?

Because I figured out early on in his presidency (in fact, before he even was handed the election) that it really dosen't matter what he says in speeches. Bush is in office for one reason: To create a situation where he and his friends and donors, especially the so-called "Bush Pioneers," can make unlimited profits. It dosen't matter what happens.... war, terrorist attack, natural disaster, social unrest, economic crisis, the Washington Nationals winning the World Series, Bush's real aim dosen't change: Help protect his wealthy friends from anything that might hinder them from making unlimited millions.

In the beginning the storm only affected poor people. Bush isn't here for them. He does not understand the plight of the poor. The poor are a group that he's probably read about in magazines. He's not going to rush home to help them because he knows why he's in office. Of course, someone told him that the poor are still allowed to vote, so he has to at least give the appearance that he cares about these poor folks. But even here, he looks out for his pals. Halliburton, the massive corporation who still has Vice President Cheney on their payroll, gets the contract to rebuild the gulf coast without so much as a bid, and Bush quietly suspends the regulation requiring workers to be paid the prevailing wage.

So Bush probably said nice things last night and he probably made some big promises, folks will feel good, people who criticize the speech will be slandered and slimed by Karl Rove and Halliburton will make its millions while the workers rebuilding the area get shafted. And this is why I never listen to Bush's speeches. He's like the sleazy salesman who pays you all sorts of compliments and says all sorts of things to make you feel comfortable so that you'll buy whatever crap he's selling. Or the person that runs the shell game on the subway.... his shtick is to make you feel like you can win so you'll give him twenty bucks to play his rigged game. I see no need to listen to the bogus pitch from the most powerful con-artists in Washington.
